The Need For Electronic Accessibility

The Internet provides everyone quick and easy access to information, and it offers people with disabilities a way to obtain information without having to rely on others for assistance. Yet navigating Web sites and utilizing web-based tools can be difficult — sometimes impossible — for people with disabilities.

What Is Section 508?

In order to ensure that no one finds himself unable to make use of available resources, the United States Congress passed a law detailing a set of guidelines that provide a framework for developers in order to accommodate the needs of many.

What We Are Doing To Help

Computing & Communications at University of California, Riverside is committed to providing an electronic environment that is accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities and providing guidelines for other campus organizations to consider when creating applications. C&C is actively working with UCR's Web Accessibility Campus Assistant, Robert Bottomley, to develop standards and best practices.
