Computing & Communications now offers wireless access to your e-mail and e-calendar. Click here for more info.

E-mailE-mail

UCR’s central e-mail system, known as E-mail@UCR, is web-enabled and designed to meet the increasing need of UCR faculty and staff to securely and easily access UCR e-mail from anywhere in the world. E-mail@UCR also provides campus users with important tools aimed at lessening the annoyance associated with “spam” and to help address the growing threat from computer viruses that are spread via e-mail messages.

Every UCR faculty and staff member is eligible for a free e-mail account, which is established automatically once a UCR Net ID has been obtained. Once your account is established, you can access your e-mail whether you are on-campus or off. You may use Eudora, Outlook or virtually any other e-mail program to read and send mail. You may also use the new Webmail interface to access your e-mail from home or abroad from any internet-connected computer.

E-mail@UCR features:

  • Worldwide web enabled e-mail access from any browser running on a computer connected to the Internet.
  • Server-side anti-virus software that eliminates most viruses before e-mail is delivered to campus computers.
  • Server-side anti-spam software that helps manage spam by ranking the probability that a particular message is spam.
  • Up to 1 gigabytes of disk storage for faculty who wish to store their messages on a server.
  • Up to 250 megabytes of disk storage for staff who wish to store their messages on a server.
  • Anti-Spam Features: Spam Tagging, Realtime Blocking Lists (RBL) and Graylisting (Coming Soon).

e-Calendar

e-Calendar@UCR (a product of Oracle) is a campus-wide electronic calendaring system offering effective time management. It not only allows faculty and staff members to keep track of their own schedule, but it also allows them to schedule both meetings with other e-Calendar@UCR users and the use of shared resources such as conference rooms, training facilities and departmental multimedia equipment.

e-Calendar@UCR runs as a client on Windows, Macintosh and Linux systems, and additionally, it can be used as a web-based application so that you can keep track of your schedule through your preferred web browser from anywhere. Your calendar information can also be synchronized with your PDA and viewed or modified with a web-enabled cell phone.

Every faculty and staff member can have an account on the calendar system, however, an email request must first be submitted. To request an account, send an email to the eCalendar administrator: phyllis.bruce@ucr.edu. In the email supply the First and Last name, the UCR Net ID and department name of the person requiring access. A reply will be sent with the log in information once the account has been established. For additional information on gaining access, please see the Enterprise System Access Instructions page at: http://cnc.ucr.edu/esai/index.php?content=corptime.html
