Emeriti Scotmail

Beginning March 25, 2009 UCR Emeriti/ae faculty will begin receiving e-mail sent to UCR's mandatory faculty Scotmail list. Please see the announcement below for more information and background about this topic.

Dear UCR Emeriti/ae Faculty,

During the past several months, Computing and Communications (C&C) has been interacting with Academic Personnel and various Emeriti/ae faculty concerning whether or not Emeriti/ae should be added to the mandatory faculty Scotmail list (Scotmail is the tool by which important e-mail is delivered to campus faculty, staff, and students).

This dialog, in part, has been prompted by several major events that have taken place during the past year (ranging from the flood in Hinderaker Hall, to the dramatic increase in fraudulent phishing e-mail, to the recent inauguration of Chancellor White). These various events have pointed to the very real need to include Emeriti/ae on the faculty Scotmail list. Therefore, commencing on March 25th of this year, UCR Emeriti/ae will begin receiving faculty Scotmail announcements via their UCR e-mail accounts.

Importantly, there are many Emeriti/ae faculty for whom Scotmail announcements are no longer relevant. As a result, C&C has prepared a comprehensive web site enabling Emeriti/ae to filter Scotmail to various folders instead of their inbox (indeed, these messages can even be deleted if filtering is not desired). Please visit the following web site for more information about filtering Scotmail:

Of course, should you desire assistance with e-mail filtering or other issues, please feel free to contact the campus Help Desk (helpdesk@ucr.edu).
