Software Checklist


Supported Browsers for OWA (Outlook Web Access)

To access the Exchange email and calendaring system via a web browser, point your web browser to https://post.ucr.edu.

On a Windows XP, Vista or 7 machine, the supported web browsers are:

  • Internet Explorer 7 and later versions
  • Mozilla Firefox 3.0 and later versions
  • Apple Safari 3.0 and later versions
  • Google Chrome 1.0 and later versions

On a computer running Mac OS X, you can use:

  • Safari 3.0 and later versions
  • Firefox 3.0.1 and later versions

On a computer running Linux, you can use:

  • Firefox 3.0.1 and later versions

Browser Settings for OWA

For optimal experience, verify the following settings.

  • Session cookies are enabled.
  • JavaScript is enabled.
  • Allow pop-ups for OWA.

Supported Clients

Windows:

Microsoft Outlook 2007 or 2010 are your supported Exchange email/calendar clients. Outlook is included in your version of MS Office; 2010 is the recommended version. Outlook 2003 is NOT supported.

How to Obtain or Upgrade to Outlook 2010

Outlook comes standard with Microsoft Office. To check if you have Outlook installed, go to Start -> Programs -> Microsoft Office and select Microsoft Office Outlook.

If MS Office is not installed and you need to purchase Outlook only, it can be purchased for $8.49 per license. Or, Microsoft Office 2010 for Windows can be purchased for $49.44, which includes Outlook. Licenses are purchased through the UC Agreement with SHI. Please see the person who handles purchasing for your department.

For departments with MCCA licensing agreements, Outlook is included in Microsoft Office and is available for all departmental users.

Mac:

Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 is the recommended client. Mac Mail and iCal can be used instead of Outlook.

How to Obtain Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac

Outlook 2011 for Mac is included in Microsoft Office 2011. Outlook 2011 for Mac is a new product that looks and functions almost exactly like Outlook 2010. This product replaces Entourage as the recommended Mac client.

MS Office 2011 for Mac is now available to purchase or upgrade through the UC Agreement with SHI for $40.02 per license. For Outlook 2011 only, it can be purchased for $8.49 per license. Please see the person who handles purchasing for your department.

For departments with MCCA licensing agreements, Outlook is included in Microsoft Office and is available for all departmental users.

Working from Home

Outlook 2010 has been known to work more efficiently when connected to the campus VPN, however, it is not necessary. When configuring an Outlook client for home use, connect to VPN in order to use the automatic discover set up. Otherwise, use the manual set up.
