Exchange with Thunderbird

Thunderbird and Lightning Plug-in

Staff and faculty who wish to use Thunderbird for their Microsoft Exchange account must download two plugs-in that will integrate the calendar with email. C&C does not technically support this option, we are simply providing instructions on how to set it up.

The Lightning Plug-in and the Provider for Microsoft Exchange Plug-in need to be downloaded and installed on Thunderbird 3.1 and above. Upgrade Thunderbird before adding the plug-ins.

To Add Exchange Account

Click Add Account -> select Email Account

Settings:

Choose IMAP or POP
Incoming Server: post.ucr.edu
Outgoing Server: smtp.ucr.edu
Use the same user name and password

Once the account is created and the main account folder is highlighted, under the Accounts header select View settings for this account. Change security settings to SSL/TLS under Server Settings and click OK.

If your server side folders are not showing up in your list, make sure you are subscribing to all folders. Configure Thunderbird to show all folders by unchecking the checkmark at Tools -> Account Settings -> Server Settings -> Advanced -> IMAP - >Show only subscribed folders (uncheck).

Note: Folders created in OWA or an Outlook client will not be automatically moved to the Thunderbird account. Contacts will not be automatically moved.
