Google Apps for Android

For Android users who prefer to use Google Apps to set up their email, calendar, and other products, please see the instructions on Access Google Apps on an Android Device or follow the instructions below. For an overview of Google Apps on Android please visit the page Google Apps on Android

Set up R'Mail as a Google Account

Enable IMAP access in R'Mail account

First, enable IMAP in R'Mail

  1. Click the Gears icon
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP
  4. Select Enable IMAP
  5. Click Save Changes
  6. Set your Google Password (Your Google Password will be your password only for POP/IMAP access to your account.  You will continue to use your UCR password for web access.)

For IMAP/POP access you should also turn on "Allow less secure apps" in your R'Mail account settings:

  • In your R'Mail account, under your account initial or image, click My Account.
  • Click "Sign-in & security" and scroll to the section for "Connected apps and sites"
  • Flip the toggle for "Allow less secure apps" so that it is in the On position.

Set your R'Mail (Google) Password

Please see the instructions on how to set your R'Mail Google Password. This must be completed before setting up you device.

Set up Google Account for R'Mail

Click the Menu button on your phone.  Its appearance will differ by model of phone 

Choose Settings

Choose Add Account
choose to add an account

Next, choose Google for the type of account that you would like to add
choose Google account

Then you will want to select the option to set up an existing account

This will then take you to the Sign In screen

Sign in with your UCRNetID@ucr.edu email address and Google Password

When prompted, press OK to agree to the Terms of Service

You will then be prompted to sign in on the web.  Click Next to be directed to the CAS login screen. Web Login

Select which data you would like to sync, then click the right arrow to complete setup. Sync Settings

Enable IMAP or POP for Android

The following are generic instructions for setting up your R'Mail account on your Android based phone using IMAP or POP. Again, it may be best to set up R'Mail as a Google Account instead.

First, enable IMAP in R'Mail

  1. Click the Gears icon
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP
  4. Select Enable IMAP
  5. Click Save Changes

Set up E-mail for Android

1. Click Mail

2. Click the downward facing arrow to bring up the Select Account screen

3. Click New Account

4. Select Other (POP3/IMAP)
select account type

5. For Email Address enter your UCRNetID@ucr.edu email address.

6. For Password enter your Google Password

7. Click Next

8. For Protocol select IMAP

9. For Email Address enter your UCRNetID@ucr.edu email address

10. For Username enter your UCRNetID@ucr.edu email address

11. For Password enter your Google Password

12. For IMAP Server enter imap.gmail.com

13. For Security Type select SSL

14. Make sure the Server Port is set to 993

15. Click Next

16. Make sure the box next to Login Required is checked

17. For Username enter your UCRNetID@ucr.edu email address

18. For Password enter your Google Password that you set

19. For SMTP Server enter smtp.gmail.com

20. For Security Type select SSL

21. Make sure the Server Port is set to 465

22. Click Next

23. For Account Name enter the name that you would like this account to be identified by in your accounts list

24. For Your Name enter your name as you would like it to be displayed in your email

25. Click Finish Setup
