GradSIS

Introduction & Background

The Graduate Student Information System (Grad SIS) is a tool developed to aid the Graduate Division and UCR's graduate programs in increasing recruitment of graduate students. Grad SIS was designed to facilitate greater accessibility to the application process for the applicant, as well as to provide a paperless solution for the application and application review processes. Grad SIS includes the ability for the Graduate Division, colleges and departments to create and allocate funding for financial support which can be offered to qualified applicants. A robust reporting system has been implemented to keep track of the availability and usage of these funds, as well as to provide comprehensive information about UCR's graduate recruitment process.

Grad SIS is a joint effort of the Graduate Division, Bourns College of Engineering, the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Computing & Communications. The initial development of the system occured in 2005. The system has been in development for the past two years, under the guidance of the Grad SIS Steering Committee, composed of representatives from the colleges and Grad Division. In June 2007, the Steering Committee approved a pilot deployment of Grad SIS for the 2007-2008 academic year, limited to a small number of deparments from each college. This pilot project is currently ongoing.
