As the pace of business increases, even in the stately halls of higher education, constant access to vital business information becomes increasingly important. To keep up with this growing need for information at one's fingertips, the handheld device is being transformed and merged with the cell phone to create a powerful information and communications tool. Computing & Communications recognizes the direction of this transformation, and has developed our Wireless Handheld Devices offerings in order to support the growing need for information amongst UCR faculty, staff, and students.
Currently, C&C offers access to UCR's campus-wide e-mail and calendar systems through Treo, Windows Mobile, Apple iPhone and now Blackberry devices. These types of handhelds are constantly evolving and as such, these service offerings will increase as the popularity of these wireless devices expands, and the speed of wireless cellular data networks increases. C&C is currently positioning itself to be able to deliver increased service offerings, such as video, that will be possible with future high-speed wireless cellular networks.
