IM Clients
What Is an IM Client?
Instant Messaging programs, called "clients," are a convenient way to connect to UCR's instant messaging system on personal computers. Clients are software that is downloaded and installed to the computer, and provide a number of benefits such as chat logging and customizable, easy-to-use interfaces. If you are not able to install software on your computer, however, C&C provides a web-based IM client.
Which Client Should I Use?
Computing & Communications officially recommends using the Spark IM client, but also supports using Pidgin on Windows & Linux and iChat on the Mac. Other clients that support the XMPP/Jabber protocol may also work, but C&C does not support them.
