In Outlook, your POP account should be deleted before you create the IMAP account. Be sure you know your password before you make this change.

Follow these instructions.

  1. Open Outlook and go to Tools / Email Accounts.
  2. Choose View or change existing email accounts.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Highlight the email account under Name with the Type POP and choose Change.
  5. Write down your information you see in the white boxes on your screen and click Back.
  6. When you are sure the information was copied down, highlight the account name again and choose Remove.
  7. Answer YES when it prompts you if you are sure.
***Warning! If Outlook saves your password, you will have to know it to create the IMAP account. It will not transfer over to the new account, so you must know your email password.
  8. Click on Add button.
  9. Under Server Type, Choose IMAP.
  10. Enter your email settings (the information you copied down) in the appropriate fields.
  11. Click Next. Click Finish.
  12. A new mailbox will be created in Outlook and message headers should begin to quickly download. You have now changed from POP to IMAP in Outlook.
