ACADEMIC COMPUTING HIGHLIGHTS

  1. New Academic Computing Instructional Technology Staff Hired.


  2. Center for Visual Computing (CVC) has upgraded UCR's Home Page. CVC will also oversee a consultant's efforts that will totally revamp UCR's web presence.

COMMUNICATIONS HIGHLIGHTS

  1. UCR Network Core Upgrade is Complete.


  2. Efforts are continuing to formulate a continuing funding mechanism for network build-out, maintenance, and operations.


  3. UCR's long term network plan to be completed by January 1999.


  4. Committee to replace UCR's phone switch and to evaluate Computer Telephony has been formed.

COMPUTING SUPPORT SERVICES HIGHLIGHTS

  1. Instructional Technology Support Initiative will be rolled out in the fall to returning faculty.


  2. A Web Site supporting this effort is now on-line.

ADMINISTRATIVE COMPUTING HIGHLIGHTS

  1. Andy Wood, UCR CS Graduate, former C&C SIS+ programmer, and lead Registrar Project Manager for SIS+ has left UCR for a position with PeopleSoft.


  2. UCR current on PPS Releases.


  3. UCR has requested that UCOP consider modifying PPS to accommodate new UCR PeopleSoft Chartfields (also known as FAU, Full Accounting Unit).

CLIENT SERVER HIGHLIGHTS

  1. Custom PeopleSoft efforts nearing completion (BEA, PAN, NPCT, FAU, STAFFING). Testing to begin in mid-September.


  2. Physical Plant Process Design Completed; CMMS Training to be Completed in September; Web Efforts to begin Shortly.


  3. Purchase Order Complete for Communications Work Order / Billing System from the Angeles Group. SQL Server Training to be help in October.


  4. SUPER D.O.P.E. to be rolled out to campus users in October.

MEDIA RESOURCES HIGHLIGHTS

  1. Expansion of Distance Learning/Video-teleconferencing facilities to take place.


  2. All 59 General Assignment Classrooms and University Village are network ready (live data jacks and IPs).
