ACADEMIC COMPUTING HIGHLIGHTS

  1. Web Course in a Box has been upgraded to the commercial version. Instructors can now use features such as whiteboards and access tracking.


  2. Web-based site license server to be implemented shortly.


  3. Computing and Communications is currently reviewing the delivery of academic computing service to campus faculty and staff.

CENTER FOR VISUAL COMPUTING HIGHLIGHTS

  1. CVC worked with the Executive Vice Chancellor to create UCR 2010, a web site for planning UCR's growth over the next decade.


  2. CVC provides web design and consulting services to many departments on campus.

COMMUNICATIONS HIGHLIGHTS

  1. An outside consultant is assisting with communications rate and funding analysis.


  2. UCR is developing a network renewal and replacement plan.


  3. Wireless is successfully implemented at UCR. One example of our use of wireless technology is IntelliShare, a project jointly sponsored by UCR's Center for Environmental Research and Technology and Honda Motor Co.



  4. Computing and Communications will supply 2200 10/100 connections to campus dorm rooms by September 1.

COMPUTING SUPPORT SERVICES HIGHLIGHTS

  1. To address faculty and staff concerns regarding the Y2K problem, CSS has created a web site where users can find answers to their questions.

ADMINISTRATIVE COMPUTING HIGHLIGHTS

  1. The Payroll Personnel System's Enhanced FAU changes are in production. (FAU = New Chart of Accounts)


  2. UCOP is successfully running UCR's payroll.


  3. PPS is expected to go live with the new FAU on July 1.

CLIENT SERVER HIGHLIGHTS

  1. UCRFS (PeopleSoft) is in production. As of May 10, over 550 electronic transfers of funds (BEAs) have been successfully processed.


  2. Nine on-line reports have been completed.


  3. PPS, purchasing, and expense transfers will come on-line July 1.


  4. The Communications work order and billing system will come on-line July 1.


  5. Feeder System General Ledger submission requirements are completed. Two feeder systems (Storehouse and Physical Plant) are currently up and running.


  6. The Alpha cluster upgrade has been completed.


  7. The Physical Plant work order and billing system is complete.

MEDIA RESOURCES HIGHLIGHTS

  1. Enhanced Education and Video Production will partner with Academic Computing and faculty to produce digital instruction and research videos for inclusion in WCB.
