Web Course in a Box (WCB) use continues to grow
Voluntary faculty use of the product has grown from approximately 20 posted courses in the Fall 1998 quarter to 140 courses in Spring of 1999. C&C hopes be serving somewhere between 300 to 400 courses in the Fall 1999 quarter. Web Course in a Box (WCB)
The "Reinventing of Academic Computing" process continues
During the most recent budget cycle, C&C received funding to augment direct service to faculty in areas of web development, OS support, and general desktop support. Prior to hiring of these individuals, C&C is looking at providing faculty with a one-stop web page that will be utilized to not only obtain information but also to initiate electronic requests for service. This Faculty Support Website will be operation by the Spring of 2000.

CENTER FOR VISUAL COMPUTING HIGHLIGHTS |
- CVC is working with the Executive Vice Chancellor on a potential project to develop and host web biographies on all UCR faculty.
- CVC continues to take a leadership role in the development of campus academic and administrative websites. Please visit the following sites for examples of recent success stories.
- ORAL HISTORY-Chancellor's Office (In progress). This site depicts some of UCR's founding fathers. It will be one of the first UCR sites to contain streaming audio/video. The transcripts, audio, and video will be on file in the library for reference.
- UCR Faculty and Faculty New Hires - EVC Office (Sample layout only). This site will give easy/quick access to information about ALL UCR faculty directly from the UCR main page. It will contain brief information about each faculty and provide a link to their personal home page. There will be the ability to search by Alphabetical, College, and Department. The database will include 'enhanced' pages for UCR faculty new hires for 1 year. The site will be developed so approved users (department administrative staff) can make changes easily.
- War and Society (In progress, approved look, waiting on final content). This site gives information about the Annual meeting of the Recipients of the Medal of Honor (the highest military decoration granted by the United States). The City of Riverside is hosting the event this year and UCR is involved in activities based around this event.
- Biochemistry Department (In progress). This site is a complete re-design for the Graduate and Undergraduate programs. This project includes the design of a large recruitment poster (part of the graphics design is on the front page) in addition to a brochure and website. Environmental Sciences & Engineering and Molecular & Cellular Biology and VitaminD Workshop also had recruitment packages including a poster, brochure and website.
- Cultural Events This site contains information about the upcoming 1999-2000 season. Online ticket purchases are being discussed.
- Special Student Services This site provides information on services for Students with Disabilities, Veteran's Education benefits and ROTC.

COMMUNICATIONS HIGHLIGHTS |
- The WTC (Western Telecommunications Consulting) engagement has begun. WTC will assist C&C in the development of several rate models for voice/data network funding for operations and infrastructure renewal and replacement. Early December is the target take for presentation of high level funding model alternatives to the EVC and Associate Chancellor for the Budget. Actual rate development will follow, based upon input from the EVC and Associate Chancellor for the Budget.
- The Science Library network upgrade is complete. The Science Library currently has the most robust (building) network on campus, feature a GB backbone (Cisco 6500) serving three closets with over 600 10/100 (Cisco 2948) desktop/DHCP connections.
- The Lothian and A&I dorm network project will be completed shortly (within 60 days). This project will provide the dorms with over 2,500 10/100 connections (2 10/100 ports per room).
- C&C hopes to upgrade the campus backbone to GB and replace all 10 MB shared ethernet during FY 1999/2000.
- Discussions are proceeding with several vendors to create a wireless infrastructure at UCR.

CLIENT SERVER HIGHLIGHTS |
- The PeopleSoft implementation at UCR (known as UCRFS) went into production on 7/6/99. The following statistics are as of 9/10/99:
- Since moving to production, 2,091 journals have been posted.
- These 2,091 journals contain 67,917 journal lines.
- Since moving to production, 9,231 purchase orders have been created and electronically imported to PeopleSoft.
- Since moving to production, 6,969 vouchers (invoices or direct payments) have been created in UCRFS. These vouchers have resulted in the production of 4,386 UCRFS vendor checks.
- The following on-line (electronic and paperless) systems have successfully been deployed as part of the UCRFS implementation:
- Payroll Personnel System
- Communications Work Order System (C&C web based system deployed in July 1999)
- Physical Plant Work Order System (C&C web based system deployed in July 1999)
- Fleet Work Order System (C&C facilitated web based system deployed in July 1999)
- Printing and Reprographics Work Order System (C&C facilitated web based system deployed in July 1999)
- Storehouse Work Order System (IBM-3270 based work order system).
- On-line Cashiering System (IBM-3270 based system).
- Student Information System Accounting Feeds.
- "Metered Mail" and other monthly billing systems (CVC, Computing, Microcomputer Support, etc.).
- UCR Visual Basic Purchasing Systems (POlite and SUB POlite).
- PeopleSoft based on-line Transaction Processing Systems:
- BEA (Budget Adjustment and Establishment).
- NCT (Non-payroll, Non-federal Cost Transfer System).
- FCT (Federal Non-Payroll Cost Transfer System).
- ACR (Administrative Cost Transfer System).
- Standard Journal Application (limited to Accounting Office Use).
- The deployment of the PeopleSoft Accounts Payable and Purchasing modules has been very difficult. The products have essentially been re-written, and applications of bug-fixes and patches have been very painful.
- C&C primary goal for FY 1999/2000, relating to UCRFS, will be to recreate budget, payroll, and financial system data-marts. C&C's current suite of VB based products will house historical data (old FAU) only.
- Staffing and Budget files were successfully translated to the "old" FAU and sent to UCOP. C&C is working on "financial" translation effort.
