Welcome Danna Gianforte

Dear Colleagues,

I am delighted to announce that Danna Gianforte will join UCR on December 1 as Associate Vice Chancellor for Computing and Communications and Chief Information Officer. Danna will succeed Chuck Rowley, who will be retiring after many years of exemplary service. Danna joins us from Stanford University, where she is CIO for Residential and Dining Enterprises. In that role she authored the organization’s first technology-centered strategic plan, ushered in significant infrastructure improvements, and improved IT governance. Prior to her service at Stanford, she was Associate CIO at the University of Georgia, where she oversaw a Banner implementation similar to the one currently underway here, developed the first student mobile application, and oversaw a major consolidation and virtualization of servers. She worked previously at Middlebury College and at Texas A&M University, where she was part of the inaugural team that built an overseas campus in Doha, Qatar.

In addition to her academic work, Danna is CEO of a startup firm, Swapability, which helps organizations participate in temporary talent exchange. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems from Texas A&M and a Master’s degree in Software Engineering from Texas Tech.

My thanks to the members of the search committee:

Maria Anguiano, Vice Chancellor Planning and Budget (Chair)
Laura Bishin, Principal Auditor
Israel Fletes, Director of Educational Technology and Computing Services
Rebeccah Goldware, Chief of Staff, Research & Economic Development
Steve Mandeville-Gamble, University Librarian
Thomas Stahovich, Professor, Mechanical Engineering
Len Nunney, Professor, Biology

Thanks also to everyone who participated in the campus interview process.

Sincerely,
Paul D’Anieri
