Periodically changing passwords is an important aspect of overall computer security. The following few notes provide information relating to UCR NetID password changes and other security best practices.

Employees with a UCR NetID and who know their current permanent password

• Employees with a UCR NetID may change their passwords by visiting https://password.ucr.edu

Employees with a UCR NetID who DO NOT know their permanent password

• For employees with a UCR NetID but who do not know their password, a new temporary password will be assigned once an application for a UCR NetID is completed. Download the UCR NetID application form.
• Once an application for a UCR NetID is completed, the Department Enterprise Directory Administrator(see below for a definition) will provide the employee with a new temporary password. See a listing of the UCR Enterprise Directory Administrators by department.
• UCR's Enterprise Directory is updated within two hours of the department Enterprise Directory Administrator inputting the new temporary password. Once the Enterprise Directory is updated, the temporary password can be changed by visiting https://password.ucr.edu .

New Employees or Employees without a UCR NetID

• For new employees, employees without a UCR NetID, temporary passwords will be assigned once an application for a UCR NetID is completed. Download the UCR NetID application form.
• Once an application for a UCR NetID is completed, the Enterprise Directory Administrator (see below for a definition) will create the UCR NetID and provide the employee a temporary password.
• UCR's Enterprise Directory is updated within two hours of the department Enterprise Directory Administrator inputting UCR NetID and related information. Once the Enterprise Directory is updated, the temporary password can be changed by visiting https://password.ucr.edu.

UCR Enterprise Directory Administrator Definition: UCR has approximately 150 Enterprise Directory Administrators who are responsible for maintaining the UCR Enterprise Directory. The UCR Enterprise Directory allows campus users and the community to lookup phone numbers, e-mail addresses, etc. The Enterprise Directory is also used by various campus electronic systems for username and password authentication.

Please note that not all campus systems currently use UCR NetID for authentication.

Legacy systems

Unfortunately, there is no easy mechanism for Individuals to change their passwords in Legacy Systems. If you would like to change your password, please stop by the C&C Front Desk with a picture ID.

IBM systems

UCR IBM systems are set to prompt password changes at a 180 day interval. If you would like to change your password at your own convenience, please do so at the system log in page.

Blackboard/iLearn

Password can be re-set by selecting Personal Information after logging into the system.

PeopleSoft

Employees are prompted to change their passwords at set intervals. If you would like to change your password at your own convenience, you may do so at the PeopleSoft Signon prompt.

PPS-UCOP

UCR IBM systems are set to prompt password changes at a 180 day interval. If you would like to change your password at your own convenience, please do so at the system log in page.
