Password Changes & Administration


Periodically changing passwords is an important aspect of overall computer security. The following few notes provide information relating to UCR NetID password changes and other security best practices.

Adding or Editing Security Questions

  • To better protect users and their privacy, each user is urged to complete three security questions. These questions will be referred to when updating or resetting a password. Employees with a UCR NetID, and who know their current password, may add/edit questions by visiting the Password Administration page.

Updating your NetID Password

  • Computing & Communications urges the campus community to create secure & robust passwords. Employees with a UCR NetID, and who know their current password, may update/change their password by visiting the Password Administration page.

Resetting your NetID Password

  • For employees with a UCR NetID but who have forgotten their password, three specific security questions must be answered in order to reset your password.

  • UCR's Enterprise Directory is updated within 1 hour of the department Enterprise Directory Administrator inputting the new temporary password. Once the Enterprise Directory is updated, the temporary password can be changed by visiting the Password Administration page.

New Employees or Employees without a UCR NetID

  • For new employees or employees without a UCR NetID, a NetID and a temporary password will be assigned by the department's Enterprise Directory Administrator. Please see your department's Enterprise Directory Administrator to receive a NetID and temporary password.
  • UCR's Enterprise Directory is updated within 1 hour of the department Enterprise Directory Administrator inputting UCR NetID and related information. Once the Enterprise Directory is updated and the new employee has registered for the Emergency Notification System, the temporary password can be changed by visiting https://rspace.ucr.edu or https://password.ucr.edu

UCR Enterprise Directory Administrator (EDA): EDAs are responsible for maintaining the UCR Enterprise Directory. Each department has an EDA and there are approximately 150 EDAs on campus. The UCR Enterprise Directory is an online phone and email listing that allows campus users and the community to lookup phone numbers, e-mail addresses, etc. The Enterprise Directory is also used by various campus electronic systems for username and password authentication.

Please note that not all campus systems currently use UCR NetID for authentication.

IBM systems and Payroll and Personnel System (PPS)

UCR IBM systems are set to prompt password changes at a 180 day interval. If you would like to change your password at your own convenience, please do so at the system log in page.

Blackboard/iLearn

Password can be re-set by selecting Personal Information after logging into the system.
