Frequently Asked Questions

The following is a comprehensive list of frequently asked questions. To view the answer, click the orange plus icon to the right of the question.

  • How do I set my display name?
    • Click Settings at the top right
    • Click the Accounts tab
    • To the right of the email entry that you would like to change click Edit Info (You cannot edit your display name for your default address,  This display name must match your official name on record.)
    • In the Name field enter your name as you would like it to appear.
    • Click Save Changes
  • How do I use one of my email aliases?
    • Click Settings at the top right
    • Click the Accounts tab
    • Click Add another email address you own
    • In the Name field enter your name as you would like it to appear
    • In the Email Address field enter either your or your email address.  To verify your email aliases go to
    • Click Next Step
    • Click Send Verification and a verification email will be sent to your R'Mail account
    • Click the confirmation link in the verification email
    • Return to the Accounts tab
    • To the right of the address entry that you just added click make default
  • How long do I get to keep my R'Mail account?

    Your e-mail account is active so long as you are currently enrolled or are an alumnus. If your enrollment lapses and you haven't graduated yet, your account will be deactivated in one year from the time of lapse.

  • Can I login to my R'Mail account through the Gmail homepage?

    Since your account is not a standard Google account you cannot login directly through the Gmail homepage.  You can login to your account either through the student portal R'Web or by going directly to  If you go to the Google login page and enter your email address (no password) you will be redirected to the Central Authentication Service page for R'Mail.

  • Should I use POP or IMAP?

    IMAP is recommended for most students.  IMAP works by keeping your mail on the server, so you can access it anywhere that you have internet access.  POP works by downloading your mail to your computer and deleting it from the server after a period of time that you designate.  Once deleted from the server you would no longer be able to access those older emails via the web.
