Student Employment in C&C

Computing and Communications (C&C) is currently accepting applications for future student employment. Applications will be kept on file, and will remain active for one year from date of submission or last update, to fill student employment positions as they become available. Student Lab Consultants

Student Computing Services is currently hiring for Fall 2017.
To apply, please come to Watkins Hall 2117 with photo ID to complete the application and hiring exam during the following times:
May 23:  9am to 1pm
May 24:  9am to 4pm
May 25:  12pm to 4pm
May 26:  9am to 4pm

Exams start at 10 minutes after the hour.

Pay: $10.50 per hour

Job Description:
Provide general assistance in a courteous, professional manner to UCR students at the Watkins, Statistics, Sproul and Arts Computer Labs, as well as the Bear Help Desk.


  • Applicants should be full time UCR students, should potentially be able to work for at least 3 quarters, and should be able to work at least 5 hours per week.
  • Hiring is dependent upon passing a test, interview performance, and being able to fill the available hours in our work schedule.
  • Applicant must have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with PC and Macintosh systems software as well as SCS services is desirable.
  • Hardware knowledge a plus.

Job Duties:

  • Assist clients with their questions and their use of the lab.
  • Answer lab telephone in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Enforce all lab policies.
  • Monitor lab to see if any clients need assistance.
  • Check email daily for any announcements.
  • Make sure there is an adequate supply of paper in the printers
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on machines that are not working.
  • Perform routine maintenance of printers, such as changing paper and toner.
  • Enter hourly usage survey data into database.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and neatness of the lab during your shift.
  • Clean assigned machines once per week.
