A Note from the Planning Group's Chairs

September 5, 2002

Dear Campus Community,

At the request of Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs James W. Sandoval and Executive Vice Chancellor David H. Warren, a planning group has been formed to investigate Student Information System (SIS) upgrade & replacement options available to the University. The group hopes to complete its efforts by January 31st, 2003 and provide the VCSA and EVC with a planning document and recommendations for next steps.

This web site will record the efforts of the UCR Student Information System (SIS) Planning Group and make public the observations and recommendations of the committee. The web site will be frequently updated with meeting minutes, notes from vendor visits, etc. If you would like to provide input to the process, please feel free to e-mail any member of the planning team (directing your comments, if possible, to the most appropriate member of the group).

Thank you in advance for your input and feedback.

Student Information System (SIS) Planning Group Co-chairs,

Elizabeth Bennett, Registrar, Vice Chancellor Student Affairs

Chuck Rowley, Associate Vice Chancellor, Computing and Communications

Taken from the Planning Group's Charge document:

"...this planning exercise comes at a very important time in UCR's history. As we move towards Vision 2010 and a campus of 20,000+ students, we must deploy and maintain strategic enterprise systems that enable and sustain campus growth. Perhaps no single system is more critical to UCR's future than a robust and flexible Student Information System. Such a system will improve and facilitate student advising, enhance campus processes ranging from admissions to financial aid, provide UCR's students a "portal" for registration, grades, and other information and services, and provide campus users with flexible and "user friendly" data access."
