Data Storage Ecosystem

Storage Ecosystem

The storage ecosystem is designed to be robust, secure, scalable, and is comprised of the following offerings:

Cloud based (Google Drive): Leveraging Google Apps for Education's Google Drive offering, CNC is able to provide unlimited storage and robust tools for backups, sharing files, and real time collaboration.  All students, faculty, and staff have access to an Google Drive account which provides access to the following Google Apps for Education tools.

    • Collaborate! Edit documents, and chat about changes in real time with your peers in real time.
    • Store! With unlimited cloud storage you can create a file storage repository.
    • Synchronize! Using the Google Drive application you can synchronize and access your files across multiple devices.

Business and Administrative Storage (eStorage)
eStorage provides a highly available "local" cloud solution for College and Unit's business and administrative needs.  This storage solution is scalable and additional storage can be provisioned as needed.  eStorage is available via a web based portal, or as a mapped network drive.

eStorage provides:

        • Easy access to data, via a mapped drive.
        • Directory Structure - Files and folders may be organized, just like on your desktop.
        • Collaboration - Share files with others in your Organizational Unit.  You determine who may see them, as well as what level of permissions they have.
        • Sharing - Files too large to send through email can be shared via eStorage.

Faculty Research Storage:  The Faculty Research Storage solution is targeted towards faculty (but not limited to) data storage. This offering is also a "local" cloud based offering, and can be made available via  web based portal, or as a network drive.

Faculty Research Storage provides:

          • 2 to 5 TBs of storage to meet secure storage needs

Colocation Services: The colocation offering is designed for use by Primary Investigators (PI) for storage of very large data sets (beyond 2TBs to 20TBs) to facilitate research.  This storage offering provides PIs with the ability to colocate thier hardware for data storage outside of thier department.

This allows researchers to leverage the use of a campus data center which provides:

          • Protection of critical research data with enhanced physical and network based security
          • Provides a high bandwitdh, and redundant enterprise class network
          • Redundant electrical and mechanical systems

Business Systems Storage: The Enterprise Systems Storage solution is targeted towards University wide business initiatives.  Storage for these projects will be acquired and provisioned as these systems are planned, approved, and deployed.  An example of such a system is the storage needs of the new Student Information System.
