Student Electronic Communications Policy

Legal2Share

Illegal downloading and sharing of copyrighted materials is a widespread problem across college campuses, and one that UCR takes seriously.  Violations may result in disabled internet access, in addition to any action taken by the copyright holder.

  • It is against the law to download or distribute copyrighted materials (music, movies, software, etc.) without the appropriate permission from the copyright holder.
  • Much of the music, movies or software that are downloaded via file sharing networks are distributed without the copyright owner's permission and are illegal.
  • There are many legal and affordable alternatives for downloading music and other content. The Legal2Share website covers a small selection of these alternatives.
  • If you violate the rules your internet access on campus may be disabled until the matter is resolved.
