Saving Files in vLab

VMware Horizon Client

We recommend installing and using the desktop client for greater ease of use when creating, editing, and saving files for later use. With the desktop client you can access files on your computer or removable devices from within the virtual environment, allowing you to edit your files without moving them from one location to another.  To enable access to shared folders or removable devices on your computer from within the client:

Windows

  1. Click the gear icon in the upper right of the client.
  2. In the left pane select Sharing
  3. Check the boxes to allow access to your local files and/or removable storage, or add folders, depending upon where your files will be stored.

Mac

  1. Click the VMware Horizon Client menu and select Preferences.
  2. Select the Sharing tab.
  3. Check the boxes to allow access to your home folder and/or removable storage, or add folders, depending upon where your files will be stored.

VMware Horizon HTML Access

When using the web version of the Virtual Lab we recommend using the Google Drive shortcut located on each software application's virtual desktop. To access your Google Drive:

  1. Double click on the Google Drive shortcut.
  2. Enter your UCRNetID@ucr.edu address in the Google login page.
  3. Log in to the Central Authentication Service with your UCR NetID and password.

To edit files already saved in your Google Drive you will first need to download them to the virtual desktop and work with the downloaded copy.  Once you are done and have saved your changes to the file you can re-upload it to your Google Drive by dragging the icon for the file from the virtual desktop to your Google Drive in your web browser.
