- Q: What do I need to use the wireless network if I already have a laptop?
If your laptop does not come with an internal wireless card, then all you need to purchase is a wireless card that is 802.11a or 802.11b/g compliant. - Q: Where can I purchase a wireless card?
The UCR bookstore sells wireless cards as do most local computer retail stores. - Q: Does my Mac laptop with Airport work on the UCR network?
Yes, you can use your Mac laptop on the UCR network if you have the Airport card. - Q: Is there a cost to use the UCR wireless network?
There are no costs to use the wireless network at UCR. - Q: How do I know what areas are covered?
Coverage is available throughout most of the campus, though some small areas may have little or no connectivity. - Q: Can I access the UCR wireless network with my PDA or iPhone?
Many mobile devices have the cababilities to use the UCR wireless network - Q: How do I find out my wireless username and password?
For students, the username is their UCR Net ID (ex: mlitt001) and the password is their UCR Permanent PIN. If students are unaware of their UCR Net ID, they can look it up at a Kiosk Computer located in either the Watkins, Sproul, or Statistics Computer Labs. If students are unaware of their Permanent PIN, they should visit the Registrar's Office or their academic advisor.
Faculty and staff will use their UCR NetID to login to the wireless network. Please read the UCR Net ID information on the ESAI website for more information
