Email Addresses: Primary vs Alias

Everyone at UCR has a Net ID. This Net ID is used as a primary email address for staff and faculty. Alternatively, email can be sent to The first.last email address is actually an alias. In R'Mail, to fully use the first.last email properly, a few steps need to be completed. 

What will happen if first.last is not set up as an alias?

  • Users sending themselves email to will end up in the "All Mail" folder instead of Inbox. 
  • Users will not be able to send email to Listserv subscriptions set up to allow email from first.last only
How to use the email alias
Log in to the Rmail web interface:
Click on the Gear Icon Gear Icon located at the top right corner of the window. Gear settings
Select Settings Settings
Click the Accounts tab Accounts tab
Click Add another email address you own Add another email address

In the Name field, enter your name as you would like it to appear

In the Email Address field, enter your email address (please use lowercase)

Click Next Step

Type in name and email address
Click Send Verification and a verification email will be sent to your R'Mail account Verify your email address
Click on the confirmation link in the verification email, OR, alternatively you can enter the verification code that was sent in that email and add it to the text box on the popup window and click “Verify”. Confirm verification

Return to the Accounts tab

To the right of the address entry that you just added, click make default
