  • About the Admissions Committee

    The Admissions Committee Grad SIS user was designed to give departments that utilize an admissions committee the opportunity to take advantage of the Grad SIS online application system. Because not all departments or graduate programs use a selection committee in their application review process, the Admissions Committee user is optional and may be used at the department’s discretion. It is up to the departmental graduate staff to route the application to the Admissions Committee for review.

  • Reviewing an Application

    Once logged into the Grad SIS website, an Admissions Committee member may either view a list of all applications he/she has access to by clicking on the “View All Official Applications” link in the main menu, or he/she may do an application search by clicking on the “Search” link. Once an application is selected for review by clicking on the application id number, the Admissions Committee Application Review will open. The Admissions Committee Application Review page is divided into five sections: Applicant Information, Application Overview, Evaluate Application, Admissions Committee tasks and Route Applicant File.

  • Application Overview

    The application overview section is located at the top of the Official Application Review page, under the Applicant Information section. It displays the department and program the applicant is applying to, the term that he/she is applying for, as well as the application fee.
    The Admissions Committee also has the option to view the Original Self Reported application from here in two different ways. The first is in a printer-friendly PDF form view, and the second is the detailed web view, which shows the application in the same way the applicant completed it. Underneath the Original Self Reported Views link, there is also a link to “View Applicant’s Status Screen” , which will allow the Admissions Committee user to view the same screen the applicant sees when he/she logs in to Grad SIS to check the status of the application.

  • Evaluate Application

    Admissions Committee users are limited to viewing applications in read-only mode. Unlike viewing the Original Self Reported application under the Application Overview sub-heading, the application information under the Evaluate Application subheading may contain revisions and additions to the application from the Graduate Staff. To view parts of the application, click on the title of the section you wish to view.

  • Admission Committee Tasks

    The Admissions Committee user’s principal task is the Admissions Committee Review Here, the Admissions Committee member can make comments about various aspects of the applicant’s profile, and can select whether or not he/she recommends the applicant for admission and financial support. The only required field is “General Comments”, all other input is optional. The Admissions Committee member can also view the comments and recommendations of other Admissions Committee members that have thus far completed the review by clicking on the tab with the user name of the member whose comments he/she wishes to view. Note that the comments of other Admissions Committee members will appear in blue text boxes, meaning they cannot be edited.

    Routing Comments
    – Here the Admissions Committee member can view comments left from other Grad SIS users as well as leave his/her own. These comments are intended for internal use and are not visible to the user at any time during the application process.

  • Route Application File

    Once the Admissions Committee member has completed his/her review and made a decision recommendation, he/she can click on Review Complete; Send File to Graduate Advisor so that the application process can move into the next stage.

    Note that forwarding of the file to the Graduate Advisor does not occur until all Admissions Committee members have completed their review of the file depending on departmental practice.

    The other option is to return the application back to the Graduate Staff. To do this, simply click on Return File to Graduate Staff at the top left hand corner of the page.
