Registration Number System

Introduction & Background

The Registration Number System (RNS) was developed under the guidance of the Business Operations Systems Steering Commitee, chaired by Vice Chancellor of Finance & Business Operations Gretchen Bolar. The RNS was designed as a companion system to the UC Learning Center (UCLC). The UCLC is a UC-systemwide deployment of a Learning Management System (LMS), designed to offer a single, comprehensive resource for staff & faculty training.

The RNS exists alongside the UCLC as a separate system. It serves the important function of allowing recharge-based training (learning actvities with an associated cost) to be offered through the UCLC, while maintaining appropriate financial controls and providing automation to the recharge process.

Recharge in the UCLC

The RNS allows for the creation of a simple registration number, linked to an FAU. This registration number is provided to the learner and input into the UCLC interface during the training registration process. The registration number is validated against UCR's financial system before registration is allowed, and stored in the UCLC associated with the training and learner. The learner's completion record is automatically reported and billed into the UCR Financial System using the associated FAU upon completion of the training. It is important to note that the RNS is necessary only for those training or learning activities with an associated cost. No registration number is required for the large number of no-cost UCR training courses.
