Support for Windows XP

Windows XP Support is Ending

On April 8th, 2014, Microsoft will end support for Windows XP. No security updates or technical support will be available after that date. Computers running the Operating System, Windows XP, on campus will become vulnerable to threats such as viruses, malware, and hackers and will put UCR systems, networks, and data at significant risk.

To remain security compliant, C&C and UCR as a whole will not be ale to provide support for Windows XP after April 8th. Systems running Windows XP must do one of the following:

  • be removed from the network
  • upgrade to a supported operating system (Windows 7 or 8)
  • be replaced, if the computer does not meet the minimum upgrade requirements

Unfortunately, when computer systems are compromised and attack the network and/or the Internet, C&C must remove the compromised systems from the campus network. If the campus security team detects that your computer is running Windows XP after April 8th, you risk having your network connection disabled in order to protect the network and yourself from vulnerabilities.

Upgrading to Windows 7 or 8

C&C recommends upgrading to a newer operating system that is supported by Microsoft. First, check to see if your computer meets the requirements to upgrade.

For assistance upgrading computers or operating systems, faculty and staff should please contact the UCR Helpdesk x24848 or Students should contact the Student Help Desk at or by phone at (951) 827-6495.
