What is a Wiki?

A wiki is a place to store information online that is editable by a community of people. The most famous example of a wiki is probably Wikipedia, which allows anyone in the world to contribute knowledge. C&C has implemented a wiki system for use on campus, so departments, organizations, or any group within the campus community can store and edit knowledge online, either publicly or privately (or some combination thereof).

What Can I Do With a Wiki?

Wikis are excellent collaboration tools. You can use a wiki to share any kind of information in almost any format, e.g. images, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and numerous other file formats. You might:

  • Create a departmental intranet; outline departmental procedures and store related forms, share information about who can help with what, create a departmental directory, and more!
  • Manage a project from start to finish, tracking tasks, meetings, audience feedback, timelines, etc.
  • Store meeting agendas and minutes, allowing all participants to edit or comment on agendas and minutes to keep everyone on the same page.
  • Conduct a recruitment, storing résumés, references, interview notes, and other relevant information.
  • Manage departmental inventory, keeping track of who has what equipment, repair history, updates, and life cycle information.
  • Faculty and staff members now can add students as users to their wikis.
