Linux Instructions


Configure Linux client for UCRWPA and EDUROAM

The guidelines below will help with understanding the protocols and settings required to connect to the secure wireless network using Linux. If you have problems connecting to the secure wireless network, you may search for resources available on the internet.

Each Linux distribution is different. Below are the most basic settings that should work across the widest range of distributions.

1. Download the new certificate and install in the appropriate certificate store; Linux users may need to point to the "thawte Primary Root CA" after installing the intermediate certificate.

2. Add the UCRWPA wireless network, using the following settings:

A. For PEAP authentication:

Wireless security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise (if prompted)
Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)
Anon Identity: anonymous@ucr.edu
CA certificate: ucrwirless_cert.pem
PEAP version: Automatic
Inner authentication: GTC
Username: NetID
Password: your CAS password

B. For TTLS authentication:

Wireless security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise (if prompted)
Authentication: Tunneled TLS
Anonymous identity: anonymous@ucr.edu
CA certificate: ucrwireless_cert.pem
Inner authentication: PAP
Username: NetID
Password your CAS password

3. Add the eduroam wireless network, using the following settings.

A. For PEAP authentication:

Wireless security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise (if prompted)
Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)
Anon Identity: anonymous@ucr.edu
CA certificate: ucrwirless_cert.pem
PEAP version: Automatic
Inner authentication: GTC
Username: NetID@ucr.edu
Password: your CAS password

B. For TTLS authentication:

Wireless security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise (if prompted)
Authentication: Tunneled TLS
Anonymous identity: anonymous@ucr.edu
CA certificate: ucrwireless_cert.pem
Inner authentication: PAP
Username: NetID@ucr.edu
Password your CAS password
